## Purpose
This note records the capability profile of the Reinsurance Analytics team as of 2024-01-10. It is intended for internal use by advisory leads and resourcing managers when assigning analysts to client work, modelling programmes, and capital reviews. The document summarizes core skills, experience highlights, and recommended primary focuses to guide deployment and identify short-term development priorities.
## Summary
- The team combines expertise across catastrophe modelling, bordereaux and claims analytics, capital modelling under Solvency II, pricing analytics, and data engineering.
- Key named skills to note for resourcing:
- Sara Kovac: prior catastrophe modelling experience.
- Tim Zupan: bordereaux data quality and claims analytics experience.
- Maja Novak: Solvency II capital modelling experience.
- The matrix below is a snapshot. It is not an exhaustive record of past engagements and should be used alongside individual CVs and project logs.
## Team Capability Matrix
| Name | Role | Key Skills | Experience Highlights | Primary Focus |
|------|------|------------|-----------------------|---------------|
| Sara Kovac | Senior Catastrophe Modeler | Catastrophe modelling, hazard and exposure modelling, model validation | Prior catastrophe modelling experience across flood and wind perils; contributed to model calibration stream for a Tier 1 cedant (fictional) | Cat modelling and model validation |
| Tim Zupan | Data & Claims Analyst | Bordereaux processing, data quality frameworks, claims analytics, automation | Led bordereaux data quality initiative for treaty submissions; implemented claims analytics dashboards used in treaty renewal discussions | Bordereaux QA and claims analytics |
| Maja Novak | Capital Modeller | Solvency II capital modelling, internal model testing, regulatory reporting | Experience on multiple Solvency II capital projection exercises and ORSA support for non-life entities | Capital modelling and regulatory reporting |
| Aaron Lee | Pricing Analyst | Treaty pricing, GLM modelling, portfolio segmentation | Pricing support for multi-year quota-share placement; developed GLM-based loss-ratio forecasts | Pricing and rate-setting |
| Priya Desai | Data Engineer | ETL pipelines, data warehousing, cloud-based analytics | Built scalable ETL for cedant bordereaux ingestion; supported automation of month-end reporting | Data platform and pipeline maintenance |
| Lucas Ferreira | Senior Advisor | Reinsurance structuring, contract wording, retrocession strategy | Advises on multi-layered excess of loss placements and retrocession purchase strategy | Advisory and structuring |
Notes:
- The "Primary Focus" column indicates where each team member should be prioritized for assignments; it does not exclude participation in cross-functional projects.
- This matrix focuses on technical capabilities; commercial negotiation and client relationship skills are tracked separately in personnel records.
## Skill Definitions
- Catastrophe modelling: exposure and hazard modelling, event set generation, vulnerability functions, model validation and calibration.
- Bordereaux processing: structured data ingestion, field-mapping, reconciliation, automated checks for completeness/consistency.
- Claims analytics: claims segmentation, development pattern analysis, reserving support, root-cause analytics.
- Solvency II capital modelling: SCR calculations, scenario testing, internal model validation, regulatory submission preparation.
- Pricing analytics: frequency/severity modelling, GLMs, credibility adjustments, rate-making.
- Data engineering: pipeline development (ETL), database design, cloud deployment and orchestration.
## Recommended Short-term Assignments (next 3 months)
- Catastrophe model refresh (Q1 2024): Lead by Sara Kovac with support from Priya Desai for exposure ingestion and Aaron Lee for pricing impact analysis.
- Bordereaux QA roll-out: Tim Zupan to lead a standardisation sprint to extend existing bordereaux templates and automated checks across two treaty portfolios.
- Solvency II stress-testing: Maja Novak to own the scenario design and capital projection runs; Lucas Ferreira to provide input on structural implications.
## Capability Gaps & Development Items
- Intermediate-level cloud-native catastrophe model execution skills are limited to a subset of the modelling team; propose a targeted training session in H1 2024.
- Advanced stochastic reserving techniques for short-tail lines are not currently a core capability—identify external training or hire if demand increases.
- Documentation: central repository of standardized bordereaux mappings should be completed to reduce onboarding friction.
## Appendix A — Individual Profiles (brief)
- Sara Kovac: Background in geospatial analysis and catastrophe model development; prior catastrophe modelling experience includes scenario generation, vulnerability curve tuning, and peer model comparison reports.
- Tim Zupan: Focused on operationalising bordereaux workflows; experience includes designing data quality rulesets and producing claims analytics summaries used in treaty negotiation scenarios.
- Maja Novak: Specialist in Solvency II capital modelling, including ORSA inputs and internal model testing; experienced in producing regulatory-ready capital projections.
- Aaron Lee, Priya Desai, Lucas Ferreira: See matrix above for concise role and focus.
